Former Nairobi Environment minister Evans Ondieki has moved to court seeking reinstatement after he was sacked by the Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero after reshuffling his Government.

“This is to inform you that Ondieki has ceased to be the County executive in charge of Environment with immediate effect,” read the dismissal letter.

He claims that he was elected in the position on October 2014 until January 26, 2016 when he was dismissed from his service.

Ondieki through his lawyer Policarp Ongwae claims that the decision to dismiss him was unconstitutional since he was not accorded an opportunity to be heard.

“The applicant has always performed his duties and responsibilities in diligent manner and Kidero has complained about his performance,” said Ongwae.

He added that the decision is contrary to the law because there were no clear reasons given for his dismissal.

The petitioner claims that the reshuffles were carried out on January 21, 2016 and retained Ondieki as the Executive Committee Member in charge of Environment, Water, Energy, Forestry and Natural Resources.

He adds they had a special County Executive Committee meeting with Kidero on January 26, 2016 which proceeded well until the Governor started talking about his re-election in 2017 and started shouting at Ondieki.

Ondieki claims that Kidero was accusing him that he is associating with potential candidates who are Dennis Waweru and Anne Waiguru.

He adds that he responded that everyone has a freedom of association respectively and freedom of worship
