A man who stabbed his father, a doctor, over 18 times did not plead to murder charges leveled against him.

Dr Michael Amolo, of Agha Khan hospital Kisumu was stabbed several times in the head and neck in an attack on April 24.

His 25-year-old son, Michael Owino, committed the heinous act following an argument over exams that he (the son) skipped.

The son, now persona non grata in the village where his father was birthed, did not take plea as Justice Jessy Lessit directed a second mental assessment be conducted on him.

The late Dr Amolo was a paediatrician at Aga Khan University Hospital in Kisumu.

Dr Amolo was living with his son after the death of his wife Monica Amolo, Homa Bay acting ODM chairperson. Mrs Amolo died in an accident on February 10, 2015.

Dr Amolo died on May 2 at Mater Hospital where he was admitted after the attack at Bandari Villas in South C estate, Nairobi.

Owino had been charged with attempted murder but this was changed when his father died.
