GARISSA GOVERNOR SAYS ‘POLITICAL RIVALS’ BEHIND HIS PROSECUTION.

Garissa Governor, Nathif Jama with his co-accusedco-accused Abdi Sahal Ali,Mohammed Hassan Ahmed,Sofia Mohamed Ahmed,Mohamed Hassan Mohamed,Jawahir Keyhan Hassan and Rahma Dekor Omar are facing charges of negotiating and executing a contract valued at Ksh 52.4 million for the provision of ambulance services to the county.

Garissa Governor, Nathif Jama, says that a case instigated against him is politically motivated, ill-conceived and meant to derail his political career.

Through his lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, the governor said that this was a gimmick by his political rivals to derail the works that he has done for his people.

Governor Jama appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court to answer to charges of flouting procurement laws.

He has previously failed to heed two previous summonses.

Appearing with his co-accused, the governor is faced with charges of negotiating and executing a contract valued at Ksh 52.4 million for the provision of ambulance services to the county.

It’s alleged that on 19 of March 2014 referral hospital at Garissa county being the Governor of the said county used your office to improperly confer benefit to Kenya Red cross E-plus Limited by negotiating and executing a contract dated 19 of March 2015 valued at cash 62,400,000 for the provision ambulances to government of Garissa without following laid procedures namely, section 7(c) of public procurement and disposal of 2006.

According to the prosecution this actions were tantamount to abuse of office and irregular leasing of seven ambulances from the Kenya Red Cross.

The prosecution said it had lined up 18 witnessed willing to testify against the governor among them Kenya Red Cross Secretary General, Abass Gulet.

His co-accused Abdi Sahal Ali,Mohammed Hassan Ahmed,Sofia Mohamed Ahmed,Mohamed Hassan Mohamed,Jawahir Keyhan Hassan and Rahma Dekor Omar are accused on or about 14, March Garissa county Government head office being employees of Garissa County Government with member’s of Garissa County government tender committee persons whose functions concerned management of public revenue,jointly willfully failed to comply with the law relating to procurement awarded contract’s valued Shs 63,400,000 for leasing ambulances.

Lawyer, Ahmednassir had earlier requested the court to grant bail to his client saying he was not a flight risk and would appear in court any time he was required.

They denied the charges and were released on a Sh500, 000 cash bail.

Proceedings resume September 13th and 14th.
