Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi can now access Parliament after the High Court temporarily overturned his suspension.

Wandayi had filed a case through his Anthony Oluoch seeking to suspend his one year ban from the current National Assembly session following a decision by Speaker Justin Muturi over “honourable” misconduct.

Justice George Odunga ruled on Monday that Wandayi’s application is merited and of great public interest.

The MP can now resume sittings until the matter is heard and determined.

The suit will be heard on August 1st.

Wandayi requested the court to stop assembly speaker Justin Muturi from taking any steps to block him from accessing parliamentary chambers, his office or the general precincts.

Wandayi was among several opposition MPs who were thrown out of Parliament on March 31 after they interrupted President Uhuru Kenyatta ‘s during a State of the Nation address.

Together with his comrades who were never suspended, they blew whistles as the President began his address.

The unbecoming behaviour painted the house in a negative light, thus the ringleader Wandayi was thrown out of parliament amid protests by his party colleagues.

The MP was suspended after he refused to leave the House as ordered, maintaining that Uhuru was poised for similar protests by the opposition.

In April, Siaya senator James Orengo warned the Speaker to brace for Cord’s wrath for suspending the legislator.
