Kenya Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion before Milimani Commercial Court on Thursday May 10,2018.

BY SAM ALFAN.

Wilson Sossion has no right to talk on behalf of teachers, KNUT says.

This is according to the Kenya National Union of Teachers acting Secretary General Mr Hesbon Otieno.

Mr Otieno said that any communication by the former SG should be disregarded and he has no authority to speak on behalf of teachers.

He further holds that there have been numerous complaints made against Mr Sossion including allegations of inefficiency in the discharge of his duties, negligence, dishonesty, breach of secrecy and insubordination of NEC by failing to take directions from them.

Otieno says that Sossion suspension by the National Executive Council was done in accordance with the law.

In documents filed in court by KNUT, the union says that Mr Sossion walked out of a meeting called by the executive council and decided to abstain from voting for or against his proposed suspension.

Nine other members of the National Executive Council also abstained from voting in support or against the motion.

As such a total of 26 members voted by way of secret ballot.

Mr Sossion has vehemently claimed that the government is behind his woes.

This is even as the Registrar of Trade Unions says that the petition before court is an abuse of the court process because Mr Sossion had not demonstrated that she acted in violation of the law.

According to the registrar, her office had not received any complaint from Mr Sossion, KNUT or any other person regarding the Union’s resolution touching on the Secretary General’s office.

“I had no reason to decline effecting the changes as requested by the Union,” the registrar said.

“The application for change of officials was accompanied with a duly filled and signed form Q dated April 30, notice of special NEC meeting, the duly signed and confirmed minutes of the Unions Special National Executive Council meeting and the list of attendance of meeting” the registrar said.

Meanwhile Teachers Service Commission says that it does participate in any way whatsoever in the running of the affairs of KNUT neither do they attend meetings of any organ of the Union and therefore have no role whatsoever in causing a change of register of officials or officers in the union.
