A woman has moved to court challenging the recent appointment of Bernard Ngugi as the Managing Director and CEO of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company.
Maureen Nyambura argues that Ngugi has integrity issues relating to the procurement of transformers, when he served as the General Manager Supply Chain at KPLC.
It is her argument that Ngugi’s appointment was done despite lingering questions, over his previous position as GM Supply Chain, in which capacity he was actively involved, presided over and headed the office that oversaw an allegedly flawed procurement and tendering process for supply of transformers by MUWA traders.
“It defies logic and legal consideration how an individual in office and directly involved in an impugned procurement process was cleared and subsequently appointed the substantive managing Director and CEO questions surrounding his involvement in the flawed process and integrity notwithstanding,” she argues.
She has also questioned the fairness and impartiality of the selection process and in effect the suitability of Ngugi who was eventually announced as MD on October, 29 this year.
Nyambura believes that the best candidate did not get the job despite the great public trust involved.
Kenya Power Board of Directors two months ago appointed Bernard Ngugi as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Company.
Before his appointment, Ngugi was the Company’s General Manager in charge of Supply Chain.
He replaced Eng. Jared Othieno who was the Acting Managing Director and CEO since July last year when he was appointed to the position following the exit of the former management team.
