OCS AND CRIME SCENE OFFICER DENY SH3. 4 MILLION POLICE PENSION FRAUD CHARGES.

Two police officers based at Vigilance House, the Kenya Police headquarters have been charged with conspiracy to defraud over Sh3.4 million from officers’ pension department.

OCS Milton Odhiambo Barasa and crime scene officer James Thuo Njuguna appeared before Milimani chief magistrate Martha Mutuku and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The two are alleged that between 2017 and 2018 at Vigilance House, Nairobi jointly with others not before court, being officers responsible for preparing and approving pension payments claims at the police headquarters, conspired to defraud pension department of the amount.

It is alleged that they prepared and approved payment of pension amounting to Ksh3,482,451 to Samuel Kiprotich Bett knowing that the claim documents were forged and that he was ineligible for payment.

Odhiambo and Barasa are also accused of failing to use all reasonable cause to prevent the said illegal payment, knowing that Bett designed to make false claims irregularly using forged letters.

The court ordered them to deposit bond of Sh1 million each or cash bail of Sh500,000 to secure their release, pending hearing of the case.
