The Directorate of Criminal Investigations have been allowed to continue holding a suspect arrested with a fireamand one round of ammunition for five days to complete the probe.
This is after Mililani senior principal magistrate Bernard Ochoi declined a request by the police to detain Eric Musungu Malesi for 14 days.
In his ruling, ochoi noted some of the investigations in the matter did not require the suspect to be in custody.
The DCI through police constable Eric wekesa attached at Gigiri police station urged the court to grant him twi days to to detain the suspect Musungu to complete ongoing investigations.
The court heard that the detectives are still pursuing another arrest another suspect who fled during the arrest of Musingu.
The police said that they also needed to search the suspect’s for more leads in order to reveal why he was in a possession of the firearm and ammunition.
The court was informed that cases of robbery are rampant at spring valley where the suspect was arrested.
He said the police needed to circulate the suspect’s photo to nearby police station of Kiambu to find out if he was wanted or involved in crime.
Musingu was arrested on April 20 this year along Kiuna close in spring valley Nairobi county. He was with another man who managed to escape.
The police told the court his motorcycle number plate was folded up to conceal registration.
They said that during the arrest he was very violent and struggled too much to escape.
