A police officer accused of raping a 41 year old refugee at Kakuma camp will remain in detention for seven days.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi allowed police to detain police corporal Kennedy Kamande for two weeks, pending the conclusion of investigations.

Kamande was brought before a Nairobi court after he was arrested in Kandara, Murang’a County on August 5, where he had gone into hiding. He was to appear before a Lodwar court but fled and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Investigating officer Joseph Kiragu told the court that the probe will take several days after which Kamande will be presented to a Lodwar court.

“Without prejudicing the respondent, the fate of the respondent, we pray that this honourable court grants 7 days to detain the respondent at capitol hill police station as we complete our logistics to present him  before court in Lodwar,” said Kiragu,” he urged the court.
