A woman has been jailed for two years over land fraud related charges.

Dorothy Wanjiru Ndungu was found guilty of conspiracy to defraud after obtaining Sh4.5 million from Pauline Mwikali Kieleko.

Wanjiru claimed that she would sell her a plot in Runda, for Sh30 million. She had been charged alongside Clement Mundati Kangethe and Stephen Mbai Mwangagi, but the court acquitted them for lack of sufficient evidence.

Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku gave her an option of paying a fine of Sh300,000 or serve two years in prison, in default.

Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku ruled that the prosecution had proven their case against Wanjiru.

Wanjiru was also found guilty of impersonating Margaret Wangari Ngugi with intent to defraud.

In addition, Wanjiru was charged with obtaining a sum of Sh4.5 million from Mwikali pretending that she was in a position to sell to her the said land.

However, the court ruled that the money was not deposited in Wanjiru’s account, rather it was deposited in a lawyer’s account.

She was, however, acquitted of the charge of forging a certificate of title. According to the Magistrate, no handwriting specimen was taken from the accused to prove she had committed the forgery.
