Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has written to businessman Jimmy Wanjigi ordering him to surrender illegal firearms in his possession.

DCI through Kuriah Obadiah issued summons to Jimmy Wanjigi requiring him to surrender the firearms and ammunitions held by him as he doesn’t hold any firearm certificate.

“You are therefore required to surrender the under listed firearms and ammunitions to the under designed at DCI Headquarters, Mazingira Complex, Kiambu road within 72 hours from the date and time of delivery of these summons,” Wanjigi ordered.

The DCI boss stated that the whereabouts of the firearms and ammunitions remain unknown and could be in the hands of criminal gangs as demonstrated by the arming of an ex-GSU officer inside Wanjigi’s premises, a few weeks ago.

The firearms include two Ceska pistols, a shot gun, a Glock pistol, another Ceska serial no.BS102, Glock serial no.URG 792, a Rifle serial no.CN005435-13, Glock serial no.WGD 666, Gilboa serial no.20104022, Glock serial no.URT 735.

“The illegal holding of firearms and such massive amounts of ammunitions particularly at this time of heightened political activities could be used to commit a myriad of offences including but not limited to maintaining or killing of innocent persons or opponent,” adds Kuriah on behalf of DCI.

The police said they have conducted extensive investigations in the past few months and established that he was in possession of firearms and ammunitions that are deemed to be illegal.

“The criminal investigation has established that you hold 10 (10) Firearms of different makes and description as described herein below and this act of possession is in contravention of the law as herein above stated,” says DCI.

He says on January 7, 2022 while officers from the DCI were conducting investigations into a land matter in which he was a person of interest, they encountered an illegal armed person within Kwacha Group companies where he was holed up.

The man identified himself as Josphat Onyiego Mugendi and the officers later found out that he was a bodyguard and had refused to reveal Wanjigi’s presence.
