A Nairobi resident has been charged with stealing Sh131 million from Family Bank.
Evans Nyamongo Bogonko was accused of stealing the money between November 13, 2018 and August 17, 2021 at Family Bank Headquarters in Nairobi.
Bogonko also faces an alternative charge of handling stolen goods. The court heard that otherwise than in the course of stealing, the accused dishonestly received Sh131 million in his account held at the bank’s Thika branch.
The charge sheet stated that he committed the offense on the same dates, knowing or having reason to believe the money was stolen or was unlawfully obtained.
He denied the charges when he appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi who ordered him to deposit a bond of Sh30 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh15 million.
