A politician who was arrested on Wednesday after appearing for an in a vernacular TV station while wearing uniform resembling that of police officers has been charged before a Nairobi court.

Monicah Wamaitha Gitau appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi and denied the charges of wearing police uniform.

Prosecution told the court that the woman appeared in the local TV station on June 29 at a local TV station within Kilimani sub-county in Nairobi, while wearing uniform resembling the new medium blue uniform won by the Kenya Police Service, without written authority of inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.

Wamaitha was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 pending hearing of her case.

The woman indicated later that she was not an imposter but a retired police officer and that her political enemies were behind her woes.

A chief inspector of police and Sergeant have been listed among witnesses set to testify in the case.
