Besieged Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa will be charged afresh with misappropriating public funds amounting to Sh38 million.
The Director of Public Prosecutions said in a statement that Mwendwa will be charged afresh on Monday, a day after his case was withdrawn.
The DPP said the case was withdrawn and the FKF boss was not acquitted as alleged, after discovery of additional evidence.
Senior assistant DPP Joseph Riungu said the case was withdrawn to enable the prosecution review the additional evidence.
“The case was expected to commence on July 5 but the prosecution could not proceed with the hearing following the discovery of additional evidence availed by the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti,” he said.
Riungu said the trial of Mwendwa was to start on July 5 but the prosecution could not proceed with the hearing after the discovery of the additional evidence, which was supplied by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
The FKF boss was charged in November 2021 and freed on bond of Sh10 million.
The charge sheet stated that he conspired to defraud the FKF a total of 38 million between March and June last year.
