A village content creator who impersonated Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on social media has been jailed for seven months.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu gave Collins Kiplenting the option of paying a fine of Sh50,000 to escape the jail term.

Kipleting pleaded guilty to the charge of impersonating the Deputy President on social media.

The charge stated that he represented himself as Gachagua between November and December 6, this year at unknown place with intent to defraud.

He told the court that he is a content creator from mashinani(village) who was after likes and views.

He pleaded with the court to give him a job if any is available and apologized to the Deputy President.

Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji through Ann Munyua told the court the convict has been impersonating the Deputy president and posting movements, projects and daily activities that were being carried out by the second in command in his social media accounts.

Ms Munyua told the court that the account had posted a Paybill and account number 329329 and account number 0100434508800 the account was in relation to get donations purportedly by the deputy president.

The private secretary in the office of the deputy president noted the Paybill and the account number were not official Paybill number provided by the DP’s office in regard with the said donations.

The matter was reported by the private secretary and Kipleting was nabbed by DCI officers based at Parklands police station.
