A businessman has been charged with obtaining over Sh12 million from a consultant pretending that he had won lucrative tenders that needed financing.

Douglas Juma Onduso allegedly received millions from Michael Maeri pretending to have won tenders with the Supreme Court, Kenya Revenue Authority and Kenya Medical Training College.

He denied seven counts when he appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo.

The charge sheet stated that Onduso first received more than Sh6.5 million from Maeri on diverse dates between 18th September and 25th December, 2021, claiming that he needed money to facilitate the tender he had won with KRA.

The tech graduate also obtained Sh3,690,000 from Maeri by falsely pretending he had won tender from KMTC and lastly he allegedly received Sh1.4 million during the same period to allegedly facilitate supplies to the Supreme Court.

To convince Maeri that the tenders were genuine, Onduso allegedly forged and presented local purchase orders from the three institutions.

The court ordered him to deposit a bond of Sh3 million to be freed.
