An assistant chief has been charged with demanding for a bribe of Sh14,000 to facilitate the lifting of restrictions placed on a parcel of land in Kajiado.

Raphael Gichuru Gathingi, the lower Matasia administrator allegedly received the money from Benson Waweru in 2021.

He denied the charges when he ppeared before Milimani Anti-corruption magistrate Thomas Nzioki.

Githigi is accused of requesting for a bribe of Sh 15,000 from Waweru on December 3, 2021 at lower Matasia location within Ngong in Kajiado County.

The charge alleged that he received the bribe so that he could write a letter to the lands registrar in Ngong, requesting him to lift a restriction order placed on the land.

It is alleged that he committed the offence being a person employed by the government at the Ministry of Interior.

He was further charged with receiving a bribe of Sh14,000 from Waweru, so that he could write the letter as promised.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000.
