A couple has been charged with falsely obtaining 209 bags of maize valued at Sh 1,108,608 from a supplier by pretending that they would pay.

Fridah Muthoni Kilema and John Mwenda Iringo of Posterity Millers Ltd allegedly obtained the maize in December last year from George Mwiti.

They denied several counts when they appeared before Milimani senior principal magistrate Zainab Abdul.

The charge sheet stated that the duo committed the offence on December 2, last year at Posterity Millers limited in Athi River, in Machakos county.

It is alleged that the two accused obtained 94 bags of maize valued at Sh 500,000 and a further 115 bags valued at Sh 608,608 respectively from Mwiti.

The court heard that the couple issued two cheques of Sh 500,000 and 608,608 respectively but which turned out to be bad.

They further denied two counts of issuing bad cheques to Miriam Mwingirwa Makena on account of Posterity Millers ltd, amounting to Sh 1,108,608 knowing that the account had insufficient funds.

The court heard that the accused are also charged with the same counts of obtaining 179 other bags of maize valued at Sh. 1,015,424 in which the same bail terms were applied.

They were released on a cashbail of Sh 500,000 each.

The court directed the case to be mentioned on April 13, 2023.
