A Belgium national has been jailed for one year for assaulting a Kenyan while accusing him for allegedly raping someone close to him.

Nairobi chief magistrate Susan Shitubi gave Quackelbeen Johan D an alternative of paying a fine of Sh200,000 to escape the jail term.

Johan was found guilty of assaulting Ronald Asumbo by hitting him with his fist on his neck and ear, causing him actual bodily harm.

The Belgian committed the offence on July 27, 2023 at around 1400hrs on Market Street in Nairobi.

A police report availed in court stated that Johan had alleged that Asumbo had raped somebody close to him and attacked Asumbo.

In mitigation, Johan pleaded with the court for pardon, saying he was remorseful. He further claimed he was battling certain health complications and he wouldn’t want to be remembered as someone who hits people.

Johan further told the court that he understands that he did an offense and deeply regrets it.
