The family of a man who was allegedly abducted by individuals claiming to be police officers about two weeks ago have moved to court seeking his release.

In a petition before the High Court, the family of Issack Ibrahim want the Director of Criminal Investigations Amin Mohamed Ibrahim and the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome compelled to produce him in court, dead or alive.

Through his brother Hussein Ibrahim Alew, the family said Issack was abducted on May 2 from his home in Elwak Sub County, Bulla Afya Location in Mandera County.

He said his brother was picked by people who were in combat police uniforms and driving three Land Cruisers in disguise of an arrest.

Hussein said when it became clear that his brother’s whereabouts could not be accounted for, the area Chief, Mr Isaac Musa reported the incident to the Elwak Police Station and obtained an OB No. 15/02/05/24.

According to the documents produced in court, Hussein suspects that his brother was abducted by police officers attached at DCI who have refused to either allow his family to visit him in custody or to present him before a court of law to answer to charges if any.

“Isaack Ibrahim’s whereabouts remains unknown and unaccounted for and there is reasonable fear that he was abducted by officers attached to the Respondents who have refused to either allow his family to visit him in custody and/or refused to present him before a court of law to answer to any charge in law,” he stated in the court documents.

The family pleaded with the court to intervene as they were living with anxiety and stress caused by the forced disappearance and abduction of their loved one without the benefit of being subjected to any legal proceedings.

“That it therefore follows that my brother’s right to be presented to court continues to be violated as he has not been presented before a court of law for now,” Alew said.
