A Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) employee has been charged with demanding a bribe of Sh5 million.

David Omondi Omogo was presented before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court and denied four counts of receiving a bribe in violation of the anti-bribery Act.

Omogo of the domestic taxes department is alleged to have committed the offence on June 16, 2021 in Nairobi.

The charge stated that he requested for a financial advantage of Sh5 milion from Pascal Ovinda so that he could facilitate the reduction of the amount of tax arrears owed by Infinity Benefits Limited to Kenya Revenue Authority amounting to  Sh25.2 million.

Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki ordered him to deposit cash bail of Sh3 million or a bond of Sh6 million.

The Magistrate also ordered that Omogo surrender his passports in court and refrain from interfering with any witnesses involved in the case.

The case is set for mention on August 8, 2024.
