A former University of Nairobi students’ association leader has been charged with falsely obtaining over Sh1 million pretending to be an agent of a senior judge.

Anthony Muchui Manyara appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi and denied obtaining the money by pretending that he had been sent by Court of Appeal judge.

Manyara is accused of attempting to obtain USD 6,750 equivalent to Sh1.03 million from a businesswoman Mary Wagaki Muthumbi.

It is alleged that he committed the offence November 28, 2023 at around 19 hours Artcaffe restaurant situated at The Hub Karen.

The charge sheet stated that he attempted to obtain the money from Muthumbi by falsely pretending that he had been sent by Justice Musinga, who is the president of the Court of Appeal.

It is alleged that the money would have enabled the businesswoman get a favorable bench to hear her case and grant the prayer. The court heard that the bench would allow her to file the appeal out of time.

He was released on a bond of Sh.200,000 or alternative cash bail of Sh.100,000
