Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya and his Embakasi Central counterpart Benjamin Gathiru Mejja Donk have won a temporary reprieve after High Court restrained their impending arrest.

Justice Chacha Mwita granted the MPs orders restraining the Director of Criminal investigations (DCI) and Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) from arresting and detaining them.

The two legislators who are allies of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were apprehensive that they would be arrested contrary to the law.

Their lawyers Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wambui questioned the plans to arrest them over claims of sponsoring ant-government protests in June and July.

The lawyers further added that the Deputy President’s aides were also questioned by the police over the same claims of funding the protests after the government’s spokesperson linked the Russian government to funding the same protests.
