City lawyer Soyikaa Lempaa has written to the Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration seeking to know the chemical formula of the teargas being used during demonstrations.
The lawyer stated that on the 25th of June 2024, Kenyans came out in the streets in various urban centres across the country demonstrating against the withdrawn Finance Bill, 2024.
And during the demonstrations, the police used teargas and coloured water cannons to disperse the crowds.
Lempaa is seeking to know the chemical formula of the teargas and the water canon used by the police to disperse protestors and from which countries the teargas used by the police is imported?
He further seeks to know whether the teargas used by the police to disperse the demonstrating youth has side effects on their reproductive health.
Further, he want to know whether the teargas imported has been approved and certified as safe by the Kenya Bureau of Standards and how much money was spent on teargas in the 2023/24 financial year?
“Kindly note that as a consumer of these chemicals time is of the essence in providing the information sought in this letter. Please provide the requested information as soon as possible,” state Lempaa in his letter.
