A couple has been charged with obtaining Sh15 million worth of timber from a merchant.

David Nyamasyo Ndunda Kitonga and Monica Ndunge Kitonga appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and denied defrauding the timber seller.

The duo were charged with obtaining timber valued at Sh15.2 million from TnG Timber by falsely pretending that they were in a position to pay.

The charge sheet stated that they committed the offence between September 1, and October 24, 2023, at Mbiuni in Machakos County.

The prosecution said the duo made the timber owner Gabriel Njenjere Chokera believe that they would pay after being supplied with the commodity.

The two were ordered to deposit bond of Sh1 million each, to secure their release or alternative cash bail of Sh500,000 each.

The couple was additionally ordered to deposit their passports in court after the prosecution said they were a flight risk.

The matter will be mentioned on September 4 for directions.
