An elderly woman has been charged with conspiring with a convict at Kimiti maximum prison to defraud a trader of over Sh7.6 million.
Pamela Akinyi Wara appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and denied conspiring with Hesbon Onyango, a convict serving jail term at Kamiti prison.
Akinyi who is from Homa Bay County is accused of defrauding Purity Karambu Laird of the money, between May 1 and September 17, 2020.
She was faced with another count of retaining the money, which she knew was stolen.
The court heard that in the course of stealing, she dishonestly retained the money, knowing or having reason to believe that it had been acquired through theft.
She was released on a bond of Sh2 million pending hearing and determination of her criminal case.
