A top manager of an insurance firm has been charged with defrauding motorists of about over Sh100 ,000 meant for insuring their vehicles.
Evans Mungai Kariuki, a marketing executive with CIC Insurance was accused of stealing the money by virtue of his employment.
In one of the counts, Mungai is accused of stealing Sh7,927 on diverse dates between 31st August, 2022 and 5th September, 2023.
The money, as per the charge sheet was meant for comprehensive motor vehicle insurance premiums for motor vehicles registration numbers KBQ 933H and KCH 977D insured by Esther Mulekye Chege and Rina Njoki Chege, respectively.
He was also charged with obtaining a total of Sh104,531 being Insurance Premiums, through three Equity Bankers Cheque Numbers 026089, 025657 and 026257 in the names of CIC Insurance from Ngara Market Fruits & Vegetable Welfare Group.

The charge stated that he falsely pretended that he was in a position to procure and initiate for them a Mepip Policy Scheme provided by CIC Life Business Policy, an offence he allegedly committed on diverse dates between 2nd June, 2022 and 3rd August, 2023.
Mungai was also denied that he obtained Sh.80,005 meant for Medical Insurance Premiums from Angela Synong’ombe Chege through her Safaricom M-pesa Number.
It is alleged he lied to Angela that he would procure for her a Medical Insurance Cover from CIC Life Insurance Ltd, on November 22, 2023.
Milimani magistrate Martha Nanzushi ordered the former manager to post a cash bail of Sh80,000 to secure his release.
