Senior government printer employee has been charged with stealing 367 security featured serialized papers used to printing land Title Deeds.

Philip Wanjala Makongolo appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied the charges.

Wanjala is accused that between the 21″ day of June and the day of September 2024 at Government Printers along Haile Selassie avenue within Nairobi County, employed as a Senior Printer, jointly with others not before court stole 367 security featured serialized papers used for printing title deeds.

The stolen printing papers are property of the Government of Kenya which came into his possession by virtue of his employment.

Makongolo was freed on a bond of Sh.300,000 or a Cash bail of Sh 100,000 awaiting pre_trial.The matter will be mentioned on October 9,2024.

The Ministry of Lands on Friday confirmed theft of 367 security papers reported by the Government Printer.

 In a statement on Sunday, the ministry explained that the papers are components in the titling process, not title deeds.

“The papers can only become title deeds after they are handed over to the Ministry of Lands, filled with ownership details and sealed with the stamp and signature of the Registrar after all due processes are followed,” stated the Ministry which is under CS Alice Wahome.

The government reassure Kenyans that what was stolen at the Government printer are not title deeds but the papers used to print titles.
