A spouse to former real estate tycoon has been charged with publishing false information about him on Tik Tok.

Doris Wawira Githae appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and denied publishing information about her former spouse Hezekiah Kariuki Mwangi.

Wawira is accused of going live and publishing videos on her verified Tik Tok account @wawirahadoc.

The charge sheet stated that she said, “Kariuki wa Comfort Homes come and tell Kenyans the kind of land you are selling, you are selling grabbed public land with fake maps….”

The court heard that she knew the information to be false and calculated to discredit the reputation of Mwangi, who is the chief executive officer of Comfort Homes.

Wawira is alleged to have committed the offense on 3rd August 2024 at unknown place within Kenya.

According to the charge sheet, Wawira is accused of posting another video on Tik Tok on 9th August 2024.

The court heard that she published the video saying….” Kariuki wa comfort homes all your projects are on grabbed public land you are selling dumpsite to people most of your clients have lost money, property and lives you are dealing with fake documents…..”

The court was told she knew or ought to have known that the information was false and calculated to discredit the reputation of the businessman.

Wawira through her lawyer, told the court that the issue emanates from a children court case where she has sued the businessman over child maintenance.

Wawira was released on a bond of Sh100,000 or cash bail of Sh30,000
