A Nairobi court has directed Interior PS Raymond Omolo to record statement in a case where two people are being accused of impersonating him or suspects would be freed.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego gave the direction after the investigation officer informed the court that he has been unable to record statement from the Interior PS, because of his busy schedule.

The court granted the officer to detain Dennis Kipchumba and Pikei Winstone Gilbert until Monday as he make another attempt to record the statement of Mr Omolo and prefer charges against the duo or she will release them.

This is after the investigating officer through Senior principal prosecutor Hebert Sonye applied for time extension adding that he is yet to record statement from Interior PS Omollo.

The investigating officer was earlier allowed to detain the suspects for four days as he completes the probe into the allegations.

The court had earlier allowed the police to detain them for four days after after police filed miscellaneous application seeking to detain them pending investigations into alleged impersonation of PS Omolo.

The court heard that Omolo received calls from unknown members of public inquiring whether he was the one who had created a WhatsApp group.

The group had his profile picture and a contact 0722***349.

He requested for the screen shots of the page and upon close check, he discovered that the group had communication of the person behind requesting for some token so that he could facilitate them secure some government jobs.

“He was shocked because he didn’t have such WhatsApp page and no day he had created a page to try and fetch cash from members of the public,” IO told the court.

He forwarded the same information to the Director Directorate of Criminal Investigations so that it could be investigated and whoever behind the same could be brought to book. He shared the message to his social media platforms so that members of the public could be aware of the conmen.

Upon sharing the message, he received many comments, whereby most of them were stating that they had already lost some cash to the scammer.

So far two suspects were arrested on 2nd November at Subaru field in the outcast Eldoret two and being in the sense that it was on a weekend and many exhibits couldn’t be recovered.

“The suspects could have been released on cash bail or police bond but they are flight risk being in the sense that it has taken a joint operation of a week to smoke out the suspect from their hideout and during arrest , they tried to escape using motorcycle,” IO told the court.
