The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) wants to be allowed to detain two nurses who doused two police officers with acid to avoid arrest, for 14 days.
Investigating officer corporal Deten Saidimu pleaded with a Naiorbi court to allow the police to detain Jonah Kipsiror Murori and Mwaura Karumbi, for 14 days, to allow them conclude investigations.
The two nurses were allegedly found operating an unregistered health facility but they poured acid on police officers, to avoid being arrested.
Evidence tabled in court showed that the police officers were responding to information that abortion was being performed at Ngara Medical Center.
The officers proceeded and knocked the door and Murori is alleged to have poured the acid on the officers, causing them serious burns.
“The three victims were rushed to Nairobi West Hospital where they are admitted in High Dependency Unit (HDU) and their condition yet to be ascertain,” the investigating officer Saidimu told the court.
The two were arrested alongside three patients, among them a lady who was in the process of procuring abortion.
The patients were taken to Mbagathi hospital and are admitted in a serious condition, according to the police officer.
The investigating officer told the court that he needed 14 days to enable the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons board and Kenya Nursing Council officials to visit the facility and conduct investigations as to suitability to operate as a medical hospital.
The investigation officers told the court that the officers who were admitted at Nairobi hospital to needs to be issued with P3 and record their statement.
Police needs to further examine the assorted drugs found in the facility.
Police told the court the two suspects are at flight risk since the first suspect, Murori is from is from Pokot and considering the seriousness of the offense if released he might abscond.
