Wajir County Government top officials have been released on a cash bail of 1.5 million or bond of 2 million each pending hearing and determination of their graft case.
Nairobi Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti also ordered them to deposit their passport in court.
They pleaded not guilty to several charges among them conspiracy to commit an corruption,abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with applicable law and procedures relating to management and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
Wajir County officials namely Jeff Mworia Kithinji (Head of Treasury and Economic Adviser to the governor), Ahmed Sahal Omar (County Secretary and Acting head of county public service ) Daud Abdullah Omar (Finance chief executive and economic planning) barred from accessing their office unless accompanied by the investigating officer.
The three are further charged alongside Siyad Ibrahim Ahmed a KCB Wajir Branch Bank Manager.
The County officials are accused of conspiring to embezzle of public fund’s belonging to county government’s of Wajir amounting to shilling 26,100,000.
Abdullahi is accused that between 5 of October and 9 of October this year being Wajir County Government Finance and economic planning county executive committee member used his office to confer benefit of Sh 26.1 million to Jeff Mworia Kithinji by unlawfully authorising him as sole signatory of the county government.
Abdullahi is further accused of failing to comply with applicable law and procedures relating to management of public fund’s by designating one authorised signatory in respect of Wajir County Government imprest account instead of the mandatory two signatories as required.
Wajir County Secretary Ahmed Sahal is accused of using his office to confer a benefit to Jeff Mworia Kithinji by purporting that the county executive committee had approved the appointment of the said person to be the signatory of the county’s imprest account.
Acting head of treasury and economic advisor to the Governor Jeff Mworia Kithinji is accused of using his office to confer a benefit of 26,100,00 million the money he irregularly withdrew from Wajir County Government standing imprest account.
Mworia is also facing abuse of office ,fraudulent acquisition charges.
The case will be mentioned on 10 December to fix pretrial date.
