A Kajiado lawyer has been arraigned before a Nairobi court with obtaining Sh4 million from a city based colleague.

Leonard Date Sekento appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku but did not plead to the charges.

According to the charge sheet presented in court, Sekento is accused that on diverse dates between January 2013 and June 10, 26 in Nairobi and Kajiado town, with intent to defraud jointly with others not before court, he obtained Sh4,150,000 from Dorothy Jemator Kimengech and Alvin Mageto.

The court heard that he obtained the money by falsely pretending that he was in position to sell them a parcel of land in Meto, Kajiado.

Mutuku directed the accused to be detained at Kilimani police station pending further directions. The magistrate made the decision after the complainants lawyer Duncan Okatch opposed the accused to be detained at Kajiado police station saying the accused was influential in the area.

Okatch told the court that a court file had disappeared from the court registry in Kajiado.
