A woman has been charged with obtaining Sh6.9 million in a fake National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) tender.

Caroline Rukia Ngozi was charged before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo with obtaining the money from by falsely pretending that she was in a position to secure Lopes Limited the said tender.

She is alleged to have committed the offence between September 26, and October 14, 2022 at Prudential House and Hamilton House in Nairobi, jointly with others not before court.

Ngozi is also charged with conspiracy to defraud Lopes Limited of the Sh 6.9 million by means of issuing a forged request for quotation from NHIF.

She allegedly claimed that it was a genuine request for quotation by NHIF.
She further denied impersonating an NHIF employee.

The woman claimed through her lawyer told the court that she has been threatened by the complainant. She claimed the complainant told her he would get her in her bedroom and skin her alive.

The court heard that the complainant threatened to murder her as she asked the court for protection.

The investigating officer, however, told the court that no threats have been made.
The court ruled that it was not in a position to investigate the threat because it does not know who between the accused and the investigator is telling the truth.

Ngozi was told to take legal action through her lawyer.

The accused was granted a bond of Sh500,000 with one surety of a similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh 200,000 with two contact persons.
