A businesswoman has been charged with illegally procuring the registration of a parcel of land in a bid to defraud a family of a parcel of land worth Sh100 million.

Catherine Njeri Ng’ang’a appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo and denied obtaining the registration claiming to have purchased the land.

The charges stated that Njeri that she willfully and unlawfully procured the registration of land parcel in Pangani area valued at Sh100 million belonging to the late Bertha Wamina Mugo.

It is alleged that she committed the offence on diverse dates between 21st February, 2014 and 23rd June, 2022 at Ardhi House, jointly with others not before court.

According to the prosecution, Njeri told the land registry that she was the sole rightful proprietor of the said parcel of land hence the right to acquire its title.

The woman was also charged with falsely pretending that she had bought the said parcel of land from Mugo, before her demise, with the intention of defrauding Mugo’s family of the land.

Njeri was also charged with making a letter of Allotment Ref: 33043/69 for parcel of land No. L.R. 209/2389/19, without authority from the original owner, purporting it to be a genuine letter of allotment issued by the National Land Commission.

Additionally, she is facing another charge of intermeddling with estate of Mugo.

The court heard that she made the false allotment letter without any grant of representation or written law, for the said parcel of land.

Njeri was released on a bond of Sh10 Million or an alternative cash bail of Sh3 Million.

The matter will be mentioned on the 3rd October for pre-trial.
