Speaker of National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula says he fully paid a man claiming to have supplied and trained a German shepherd for him.

In response filed in court, Wetang’ula dismissed the claims by Isokat Bethwel maintaining that he does not owe him any money.

He said he paid the trainer Sh100,000 as had been agreed.

Wetangula said Isokat filed the claim to camouflage himself as a victim in this fictitious claim with malicious objective, hoping to extort money from him.

“This frivolous claim is intended to malign, vex and annoy me as well as embarrass and attract negative publicity against me,” adds Wetangula.

He said the complainant wrote him a message on WhatsApp on 26th June 2024 demaning Sh214,000.
He said he did respond to the message and he categorically informed him that he did not owe him any monies.

He argues that at no point did he contract Isokat to train the dogs for an alleged Sh50,000 or at all.

“I am categorical that Bethwel did not offer any training to the dogs post-delivery and there was no contract between him and Bethwel for post-delivery training,” says Wetangula through Stephen Apopo Okumu.

The lawyer said he was present when the oral contract between Wetangula and Bethwel was entered, and he can confirm that there was no contract for training the dogs post-delivery.

“The purported training post-delivery and owed training costs as alleged by the Bethwel are imaginary and or pure falsehoods. Bethwel in an attempt to extort money from Wetangula has made and publicized frivolous and fictitious demands in an attempt to humiliate and pressurize him to pay nonexistent dues,” says Apopo.

Wetangula says he is a stranger to the invoice dated 11th June, 2021 and delivery note dated the same day as presented to this court by the Claimant. The same were never supplied to him before, during or on conclusion of the said dog’s transaction.

According to Wetangula, he has never been furnished by Bethwel with the said documents before, during or after the sale.

Apopo claim that Wetangula has confirmed to him that he only saw the said documents upon accessing the Court’s fillings by Bethwel.

“In the delivery note there is a person alleged to have received the dogs and dog related items identified as Karori. I reiterate that the Respondent is emphatic that the subject delivery note is unknown to him, the same was never brought to his attention before this suit save that the Claimant has manufactured and or authored the said delivery note to simply achieve his malicious intentions in this suit. And neither the dogs nor the alleged accompanying items were received by the cited Karori at the Wetangula’s home,” says Apopo.

He argues that Bethwel is not the manufacturer of any of the dog related items listed in the claim and could only source the same from the open market.

“It is disturbing that with a view to unjustly enrich himself, Bethwel has stated prices of the items that he allegedly supplied to Wetangula, but which Wetangula maintains that Bethwel did not supply, at overly, exaggerated prices and which are not the prices in the market then or now, at all.
