A woman who paid out ‘fake’ hitmen to kill her husband has denied planning the execution.
Together with her lover and two relatives, they attempted to slaughter her husband in a love triangle taste sour.

Her estranged husband, Joseph Muraya Mwangi works with the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

Police on getting wound about her plan posed as fake hitmen who then nabbed the woman on her way to make their settlement fee of Sh500, 000.

Bilhah Njoki, her boyfriend Jimmy Ndung’u Waititu, brother Peter Mwangi Gakungi and sister Lucy Waitherero Mwangi were yesterday charged with attempt to murder.

Together with others who were not in court, they were accused of hiring hitmen to kill Joseph Muraya Mwangi of KAA at Mowlem in Nairobi on June 22, 2016.

The four however denied the charges when they appeared before Makadara Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga.

State Counsel Lilian Ongwara and Daniel Kingori opposed their release on bail on grounds that the offence was serious and carried a life sentence.

“There is a likelihood that the accused will abscond bail in regard to the seriousness of the offence,” said Ms Ongwara.

Lawyer Peter Macharia, for the accused, opposed the application by the prosecution, saying the offence was bailable.

“Since the accused have pleaded not guilty, it means that they are innocent until proven guilty,” said Mr Macharia.

Macharia also told the court that the complainant had on several occasions threatened to kill the accused and she had reported the matter at Buru Buru Police Station on April 19, 2016, and May 29, 2016, but nothing was done.

Njoki was married to Muraya from 2007 until 2012 when the two separated.

A ruling on whether they will be released on bail will be delivered tomorrow.
