Kiambu Governor William Kabogo should appear in court on August 5 to answer charges of ethnic contempt in relation to remarks he made last year.

On Nov 25, 2015, Mr Kabogo is alleged to have issued a statement deemed as inciting ethnic contempt against various communities in Kenya.

He is accused of making a statement meant to incite feelings of hatred against communities that do not embrace male circumcision.

The orders were given by Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo upon an application by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Leonard Maingi, who asked the court to summon Mr Kabogo to appear in court and take a plea on the charges.
