Former Laikipia North Member of Parliament Matthew Lempurkel wants the government to pay all livestock killed in Laikipia.

He also asked the court to issue orders barring the police from killing their livestock.

Lempurkel further wants the government to compensate the pastoralists community whose livestock was seized, confiscated, killed or maimed.

He said the acts were unconstitutional and amounted to inhuman and degrading treatment.

“The pastoralists community solely depend on their livestock for their livelihood and do not have any other or alternative means of livelihood,” claims Lempurkel.

Additionally, the former legislator claims that the alleged Destruction of property, confiscation, and killing of livestock and disruption of the livelihoods of livestock herders has left them destitute.

The petition has been filed a week after over 300 livestock belonging to pastoralists were allegedly killed during a police operation in Laikipia County.
