Three notorious matatu drivers who allegedly rammed into a Police vehicle and causing chaos along Moi Avenue last Sunday, have been with both Traffic and criminal offences.

Victor Wanjau, Joseph Muiruri Kinuthia and John Mwaura Wanjiru today appeared before Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Benson Nzakyo and Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi where they were charged with reckless driving.

It is alleged that on 9 of September this year, along Moi Avenue they drove their vehicles in a rash and in negligently manner that endangered the lives of other road users.

The drivers from Manchester,Royal and Naeku Sacco’s were also separatelay charged with other traffic offenses.

Wanjau and his two co- accused faced a further charge that of driving motor vehicles that were not properly maintained.

According to the charge sheet, they are accused that around 11 Am on the same dates, drivers of a Matatu christened ‘Ty Dolla’, they operated a vehicle whose equipment was not in good working condition.

The drivers denied the charges and were freed on a Cash bail of 50, 000 shillings each for all the Counts in both cases.

During the incident that occurred last weekend, the matatu was seen reversing with a crowd of youths dangerously dangling onto its exterior before ramming into the back of the police patrol car.

According to police sources, they are hunting other vehicles which have missing from Nairobi roads fearing to be arrested. The officials from the sacco of matatu involved have summoned by police.
