A businesswoman has been charged in a Nairobi court with forgery and conspiracy to defraud her husband.

Jane Wambui Mbugua appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud, forgery, obtaining registration among others.

67 year old Wambui has been charged that on or about August 14, 2015 in Nairobi with intent to defraud J.M Mugo Investment company limited of a parcel of land , she conspired by preparing a conveyance dated August 14, 2014 knowing that the land parcel in question belonged to the said company.

The court was informed that the complainant in the case, Johnson Mbugua Mugo is the husband to Wambui and the company is a family business, which they co-own.

Wambui is accused on the August 14, 2015 at unknown place jointly with others not before court and with intent to defraud J.M Mugo Investment company limited of a parcel of land valued 140 million without lawful authority forged the signature of Johnson Mbugua Mugo on conveyance, purporting it to be genuine signature of made by Mbugua, who is a director of the company.

The prosecution accused her that on the same date, month and year at Ardhi House in Nairobi jointly with others not before court, with intent to defraud the company, they obtained registration of the said land into her name without authority from directors of the said company.

The court ordered to deposit cash bail of 500,000 and bond of 1 million to secure her release.
