CHANIA GIRLS PRINCIPAL, BURSAR FACE CHARGES IN PROCUREMENT OF COMPUTERS.

The principal of Chania Girls High School in Thika and two other officials have been charged with failure to comply with procurement rules over the purchase of school computers.

Monica Nduku Kimei, Robert Mwangi Njoroge, Monica Wangeci Maina and Shadrack Keli Mutinda appeared before Thika Chief Magistrate court Julius Nangeya in Thika and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Nduku is accused that between February 5 and May 9, 2016 at Chania Girls high school in Thika town in Kiambu county, being the accounting officer and the principal of the school willfully failed to comply with the law relating to procurement by failing to issue the notice of termination to the bidders had submitted bids in respect of tender CGHS/19/2016 for supply of computer accessories.

Prosecution also accused Nduku that on or about February 30, 2016 at the school, with intent to influence the procurement of computers and accessories in the school, made a false minutes of procurement meeting held on November 24,2 015 purporting to be genuine minutes for the said procurement committee.

Robert Mwangi Njoroge is accused of corruptly giving a benefit of Kshs.5,200.00 to the school Bursar Monica Wangeci Maina as a reward for facilitating payment of computers and accessories worth Kshs403,100.00 delivered to the school.

Wangeci is charged that on May 14, 2016 with Kiambu county being a person employed in the public service as Chania Girls high school Bursar, she corruptly received a benefit of Kshs.5,200.00 from Njoroge as reward for facilitating payment for computers and computer accessories.

Njoroge is also charged with giving bribe of Kshs 5,000 and Kshs. 3,100.00 to Mutinda, who is the school’s computer studies teacher as reward for facilitating payment for computers and accessories.

Mutinda is also charged with receiving the said bribe from Njoroge.

Nduku, Njoroge, and Maina were released on a bond of Kshs.300,000 or alternatively cash bail Kshs 200,000, while Mutinda was ordered to pay cash bail of Ksh.100,000.

The case will be mention on July 21 for further directions.
