COP ACCUSED OF SHOOTING DEAD MAN IN KARIOBANGI MOVES TO BLOCK MURDER CHARGES.

BY NT CORRESPONDENT.

A police officer attached to Kariobangi police station has moved to court seeking to block plans to charge him with murder.

Msuya Ngolo Lewis wants the High Court to issue a conservatory order suspending decision by Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) recommending that he be charged with the murder of Said Muktar, a robbery suspect.

“This court can be and hereby pleased to issue a conservatory order forthwith staying Independent Policing Oversight Authority decision to charge him or plea taking for the offence of murder in respect of the death of Said Muktar, a robbery with violence suspect pending hearing and determination of the application,” he says in the petition.

Through Lawyer Danstan Omari, Ngolo also wants to be released on a bond or cash bail, pending the determination of the application.

Ngolo says that since the suspect was killed four years ago, he has always cooperated with the investigating officers.

The said offence occurred on November 12, 2017 at around 1930hours at around Korogocho in kona mbaya area within Kariobangi.

He recalls that a report was made to the police station and he, in the company of other officers, rushed to the scene of crime only to be confronted by a knife-wielding suspect. He shot him dead in self-defence, he said.

After the shooting, a group of people started pelting stones at the two officers, forcing them to call for reinforcement from the station.

More officers rushed to the scene and they were rescued, according to the officer.
