City lawyer Danstan Omari has threatened to sue the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji with defamation over his remarks captured on national TV dismissing Mike Sonko’s bid to be in the ballot papers for the August 9 general election.

In a televised interview, Haji claimed that Sonko has slim chances of being in the ballot because the grounds of his appeal were weak and the choice of his lawyers wanting. He claimed the lawyers representing Sonko, Omari being one of them, are busy bodies.

“I think his chances are slim, but he has the right constitutionally to exhaust all means that are available to him. The grounds that he’s going are not very strong, and i think the choice of even (giggles) the counsels that he has who in my opinion are very busy bodies ……,” said Haji.

Omari said he has instructed a team of lawyers to sue Haji because he considered his statements unfortunate and character assassination. He said his lawyers will move to court, latest July 21.

The veteran lawyer and a team of advocates including Martina Swiga, Shadrack Wambui and Paul Macharia said they act on instructions of the client and do not move to court for the sake of it.

The lawyer also challenged Haji to point out one advocate whom they did pupillage with or better still, show him any of his classmates at the school of law.

According to Omari, Haji has never prosecuted a single case and neither does he appear in the corridors of the court yet he is the top prosecutor.

He further stated that the DPP is on record asking former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu to point one of his former classmates, yet he (Haji) cannot do the same.

The law firm questioned how Haji got into the office without showing his academic papers or any educational tracks.
