Chief Justice Martha Koome has transferred four judges following the elevation of six judges to the Court of Appeal.
Among those transferred is Justice Anthony Mrima who issued an order last year committing the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti to jail over the failure to return firearms belonging to businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.
The judge also issued an order compelling the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to include evangelist Ruben Kigame in the presidential ballot but the decision was suspended by the Appellate court after the electoral body claimed that it would cost up to Sh1 billion to make comply with the directive.
The Judge will now be the presiding judge of the High Court in Kitale after Justice Luka Kimaru was elevated to the Court of Appeal.
Justice Mugure Thande will now replace Justice Mrima at the Constitutional & Human Rights Division from August 1.
Justice Thande currently sits in the Family division of the High Court and among the cases she is handling is the battle for the property of the late Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen.
Also moved is Justice Grace Nzioka who becomes the Presiding Judge in Naivasha with effect from September 15. The judge was previously at the Criminal Division and is handling the trial of TV journalist Jacque Maribe and Joseph Irungu over the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani murder case.
She yielding exceptional case management strategies which are expected to be replicated in Naivasha.
Justice Kanyi Kimondo will move from Murang’a and assume the position of Presiding Judge in the Criminal Division starting September 15.
“The transfers are done at the discretion of the Chief Justice to address gaps created by the promotion of judges especially in busy High Court Stations,” said Chief Justice.
