An administrative secretary at the ministry of Interior has been charged with perjury.

Dorcas Njeri Mugo appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Esther and denied the charges.

Mugo is accused of giving false testimonials in a case pending before a Milimani court on July 22, this year.

The charges stated that she knowingly gave false testimony in respect to a valuation report of a property in Ruiru that was presented for consideration of surety for her daughter Esther Muthoni, who is facing fraud charges.

The official allegedly gave testimony on oath before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi.

She was released on a cash bail of Sh 300,000 after denying the charge.

The matter will be mentioned on August 29, for directions and determination.

Mugo was detained seven days ago after she appeared in court to bail her daughter, who is charged with Sh34 million fraud.

The woman was nabbed after she presented her title deed in court to stand surety.

The prosecution noted that the documents resembled others that were used to stand surety for her daughter in a different case.

The prosecution applied for her detention as the DCI commenced investigations to determine whether the new surety bond was genuine.

The court heard that one of the parcels of land is in Ruiru, Kiambu County while the other one is in Embu county.
