Five people have been charged with stealing medical equipment from a city public clinic.

Humphrey Mwagu, John Kiema, Antony Micheru, Paul Karanja and Wanjiru Gituku were arraigned before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied the charges.

The five were captured in a video that has gone viral as they were ferrying stolen medical supplies meant for Nairobi county Government hospitals.

The charges against them state that they stole twenty boxes of urine specimen containers valued Sh184,000 the property of Ministry of Health.

It is alleged that the committed the offence on February 21, 2023 at Kilimani area sub-county within Nairobi County, jointly with others not before court.

Kiema, Micheru and Karanja were charged with handling stolen property, after they were sezed with the equipment.

The court heard that they dishonesty assisted in retention of 20 boxes of urine samples valued at Sh184,000 despite knowing that they were stolen.

It is alleged to have conspired to commit a felony by stealing urine specimen containers meant for Nairobi County.

They denied the charges of theft and were released on a Cash bail of Sh100,000 each.
