National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah has been given seven days to apologise to city lawyer Danstan Omari for allegedly defaming him.

The Kenya Kwanza politician and Kikuyu MP is accused of defaming the lawyer in a tweet that was widely circulated.

Through lawyer Brian Mabeya, the outspoken city advocate wants the MP to delete the offensive tweet and offer an apology..

“It is our demand therefore that you retract the offensive tweet and apologize to our client within seven days (7 days) of the service of this letter, failure to which we will have no option but to seek legal succor without any further reference to yourself or associates,” Omari demanded.

The lawyer said the Majority Leader published the tweet on 1st of February 2023, using his known Twitter account, stating “Phew! At least am known in Kikuyu by my people unlike the fake media based liar only known along Koinange Street!”

The said statement posted on his twitter handle, was made as a caption to a video recording of Omari who had appeared in a local television on morning show which aired on 1st February 2023.

In his demand letter, lawyer Omari says that the import of Inchungwa’s tweet portrayed him as a person of loose morals, a person who keeps the company of prostitutes and an immoral person, “never mind the fact that he is an advocate of several years standing and has been a lecturer of law”.

“He is also a father and a married man, and a known commentator on various public issues on media. Your tweet was therefore calculated to injure the image and character of our client in the eyes of the public,” the letter stated.
