A manager working for Family Bank has been charged with stealing Sh66 million from the lender.

Elias Kinyua Njue appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi and denied the charges.

The charge against Kinyua stated that he stole the money being a servant to the bank. It is alleged that he committed the offence on August 3, 2023 at the bank’s head office in Nairobi.

Through his lawyer, the accused person informed the court that he has been out on a police cash bail of Sh150,000 and has since been reporting where required by the DCI officers.

The lawyer further stated that the accused is a resident of Nairobi county and is not a flight risk.

It was also revealed that Kinyua has since been suspended from work, hence cannot interfere with the witness.

The prosecutor however opposed the application to be released on bail by saying that at the time of arrest, the accused person was only suspect and had not been charged.

The prosecution further urged the court to consider the amount stated on the charge sheet.

Kinyua was released after depositing a cash bail of Sh1 million in court.

The case will be mentioned on November 6.
