A manager and a cashier with shoe maker Bata have been charged with stealing shoes worth Sh15.5 millions from the firm’s Riverside depot.

Moses Ngugi Muchwe and Francis Mwangi Wairimu appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu and denied the charges.

The duo are accused of stealing 16,711 pairs of shoes worth Sh15.5 million, from the company on diverse dates between 12th July and 11th December 2021 at company’s Riverside depot .

The charge stated that they committed the offence jointly with others not before court, being employees of Bata.

The prosecution argued that the accused were not first time offenders since they face similar charges reported at Bungoma Law courts and are out after depositing cash bail of Sh 5 million, each in court.

The allegations were dismissed by the accused persons through their lawyer stating that the Bungoma case implicated all branch employees and not them as individuals.

They were released on a bond of Sh 5 million each.
